Do You Need UK Student Visa for Remote Learning?

No. Remote learning doesn’t require a UK student visa. However, UK had given a concession earlier to all students during COVID so that students could take remote courses from their home countries instead of staying in UK.

At that time there were many visa restrictions imposed by UK. However, that is not the case anymore because UK has allowed all students to enter the country to study their courses.

In fact, UK student visa now doesn’t allow remote learning.

UK Removes Remote Learning Option for Students

Students who get financial support from the UK government will not be permitted to study abroad. If you are not a registered attendee, the University of will no longer provide funding. The Student Visa / BRP card will thereafter be canceled by UKVI, rendering it invalid for future admission into the country.

What this means for Remote Students in UK?

For the 2022–23 school year, you will need to be back in the UK by the beginning of your chosen program.

You are on summer break from the first of July till the start of the academic year in September 2022.
Students who have not yet completed compulsory seminars, lectures, meetings, or supervision sessions as of July 1, 2022, must do so in person on the University of Leeds campus.

Sponsorship Removed for Students That Don’t Visit UK

If you fail to show up to any of the specified contact times, we will have to remove our sponsorship of your Student Visa.
As of the 30th of June, 2022, e-learning will no longer be permitted. If your CAS has expired or you never had one, you will need to apply for a new one through the University.

Classes in UK Mandatory after June 2022

If you are currently located in the United Kingdom and would want to apply, you will need to attend classes in person beginning on June 30, 2022. Before June 30th, 2022, to qualify for the Graduate Visa, you must have visited the UK. 
The University will cease its support if you do not return to the UK to complete your studies. 
If UKVI cancels your visa, it will no longer allow you to enter the UK, and you will no longer be able to apply for the Graduate Visa.

What Type of UK Visa for Students?

There are two types of visas in UK: Short term visa & Standard visitor visa.

  1. Short-term study and semester-long exchange programs are permitted uses of the Standard Visit Visa. But it can’t be utilized for longer than 6-month programs.

2. If your degree program requires you to do research in the UK for a limited time, you may be eligible for a Standard Visitor visa.

Whether or not you require a visitor visa to enter the United Kingdom as a tourist depends on your country of citizenship.

What You Can’t Do Under UK Student Visas

  • Starting work in the UK
  • Working for a company or organization in the UK
  • Starting or operating a business as a sole proprietor
  • Gaining work experience through an internship or work placement
  • Selling or supplying products or services directly to consumers

All these are things that you can’t do on a standard or a short-term student visa in the UK.

That being said, you don’t need a UK visa if you want to study remotely in the UK. The problem is that there are no universities in the UK that are now offering a remote learning option since COVID is no longer a threat.

So, if you want to study remotely in UK, you will have to visit UK and study as a present student just like other students do.
